Dear friends, Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. Finally, before history ends, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The indictment stated that there ‘are reasonable grounds to believe that both individuals intentionally and knowingly deprived the civilian population in Gaza of objects indispensable to their survival, including food, water, and medicine and medical supplies, as well as fuel and electri...

Give Us Peace on Earth: The Forty-Seventh Newsletter (2024)

Heri Dono (Indonesia), Two Guards Who Protect Their Leaders, 2013. Dear friends, Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. On 31 May, the United States military endorsed a Statement of Principles for Indo-Pacific Defence Industrial Base Collaboration to strengthen military industry cooperation with its allies in the region. The principles outline commitments to initiatives such as the co-production of missile and rocket systems in Australia, the co-development of hypersonic missile interceptors with Japan, and possible collaboration with South Korea on defence technologies, including artillery systems. This collaboration adds to the extensive network of Indo-Pacific partnerships that the United States has created since the end of World War II. As...

Violent Nationalism and Palestine Protests in Amsterdam

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n5z5RLx9LM This past week, we witnessed ugly scenes of violence and intolerance unfold in Amsterdam as Israeli football hooligans targeted Palestinians and Muslims in a chilling display of aggression. The response from the Dutch authorities and media has been disappointing, fueling a false narrative of anti-Semitism while stifling legitimate protests against Israel’s brutal occupation and apartheid policies. To unpack these complex dynamics, I am joined by Hassen Lorgat from the PSA. #amsterdam #Football #Soccer #Palestine #israel #Sport

Swimming in Mud in the Fifth Circle of Hell: The Forty-Sixth Newsletter (2024)

Boris Taslitzky (France), Le Petit Camp à Buchenwald (The Small Camp of Buchenwald), 1945. Dear friends, Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. When Dante Alighieri and his guide reach the fifth circle of hell in Inferno’s Canto VII, they come across the River Styx, where people who could not contain their anger in life now wallow and fight each other on the surface of the turbulent, muddy water, and below them lie those who had been sullen in life, their frustrations coming to the surface as bubbles: And I, who stood intent upon beholding,Saw people mud-besprent in that lagoon. All of them naked and with angry look. They smote each other not alone with hands,But with the head and with the breast and feet,Tearing each other piecemeal with t...

Ōriwa Tahupōtiki Haddon (Ngāti Ruanui), Reconstruction of the Signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, c. 1940. Dear friends, Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. For the past few weeks I have been on the road in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Australia at the invitation of groups such as Te Kuaka, Red Ant, and the Communist Party of Australia. Both countries were shaped by British colonialism, marked by the violent displacement of native communities and theft of their lands. Today, as they become part of the US-led militarisation of the Pacific, their native populations have fought to defend their lands and way of life. On 6 February 1840, Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) was signed by representatives of the British Crown and the Māori g...

Help build a revolutionary socialist organization! What can we do with your contributions?

Here's some projects we are working on: $2,000 with fund expenses for a Worker's Voice volunteer organizer to travel to cities across the country where we are currently developing new branches. $1,500 would help cover travel and honoraria expenses for building our East Coast "The Solution is Socialism" conference in the spring of 2025. $1,000 could help cover the cost of venues for our winter revolutionary day schools on the West and East Coast. $750 would allow us to publish a new bilingual pamphlet on black liberation. $500 will help send a comrade to cover labor struggles and new organizing efforts like that in the Auto Workers Union in the south.  A contribution of any size will be put to good use and deeply appreciated. For more information about our activities please visit wo...
