1925~27년 중국 노동자 혁명 100주년: 혁명은 어떻게 비극으로 끝났는가

1925~27년 중국에서 혁명이 일어났음을 아는 사람은 오늘날 드물다. 대부분의 좌파들도 이 중요한 역사적 경험을 잘 언급하지 않는다. 그러나 이 혁명은 노동계급의 혁명적 잠재력을 보여 준 사건이었고, 다른 한편 계급 연합 전략의 문제를 보여 주는 중요한 역사적 사례다. 정확히 100년 전 중국에서 노동자 혁명이 일어났다. 노동자들은 반제국주의 요구와 자신들의 고유한 요구를 결합하며 투쟁을 혁명으로 발전시켰다. 그 혁명은 비록 패배했지만 노동자들이 사회를 스스로 운영할 잠재력을 갖고 있음을 힐끗 보여 줬다. 당시 중국은 제국주의 열강의 지배 아래에 있었다. 영국, 일본, 프랑스 등 열강은 중국의 시장을 개방하고, 불평등 조약으로 얻어 낸 반(半)식민 구역인 조계를 중심으로 중국 곳곳에 자국의 세력권을 구축했다. 그리고 나머지 지역들은 군벌들이 통치하고 있었다. 1919년 5·4 운동이 변화의 기폭제가 됐다. 서구 열강의 동의하에 일본이 산둥성 지배권을 차지한 데 분노해 학생들의 항의 시위가 전국적으로 벌어졌다. 수많은 대중이 운동에 뛰어들었다. 특히 노동자들이 학생들을 지지해 파업을 벌여 처음으로 조직된 세력으로서 투쟁에 나섰다. “광동성, 홍콩 파업 반드시 승리하자” 현수막을 들고 있는 중국 노동자들 ⓒ출처 Universal History Archive 이후 1917년 러시아 혁명의 영향과 운동의 고양 속에 1921년 중국 공산당이 창당됐다. 공산당은 홍콩, 항저우, 상하이 등지를 중심으로 활발해진 노동자 투쟁에 관여하며 빠르게 성장했다. 1925년 5월 상하이 일본인 소유 ...
