The transfer of 65,000 acres of the Uva – Wellassa historic site to a multinational Singaporean company

The transfer of 65,000 acres of the Uva – Wellassa historic site centered on the Rideemaliyadda – Dehigama area, to a multinational Singaporean company, causing great environmental damage and displacing our Adivasi communities. Plans to acquire these lands have been going on for several years and have recently reached a critical juncture.
The Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority (SLMA) has taken steps to evict Adivasi and other local farmers from their lands, and the security forces have been called in to carry out evictions.
