நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களின் வாக்குகளால் ரணில் விக்கிரமசிங்க ஜனாதிபதியாகத் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார். கடந்த ஜூலை மாதம் 9ஆம் திகதி கோத்தபாய ராஜபக்சவை மக்களால் வெளியேற்றியதன் காரணமாக அந்த பதவி வெற்றிடமானது.
ரணில் விக்கிரமசிங்க, ராஜபக்சவைப் போலவே மக்களால் வெறுக்கப்பட்டவர். கடந்த ஜனாதிபதி தேர்தலில் போட்டியிடும் வாய்ப்பு கூட அவருக்கு கிடைக்கவில்லை. அவர் மக்களால் நிராகரிக்கப்பட்டதால், அவர் போட்டியிட்ட மாவட்டத்திலோ அல்லது இலங்கையின் வேறு எந்த மாவட்டத்திலோ ஒரு ஆசனத்தில் வெற்றி பெற முடியவில்லை. 2020 பொதுத் தேர்தலில் அவரது கட்சி இலங்கையில் 2.15% வாக்குகளை மட்டுமே பெற முடியும்.

Ranil Wickramasinghe has now been elected as the succeeding president by the votes of the members of parliament as the position got vacant due to the ouster of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by the people on July 9.
Ranil Wickramasinghe is as hated by the people as the Rajapakshas. He did not even get a chance to contest the last presidential election. He was so rejected by the people that he could not win a seat from the district he contested, or from any other district in Sri Lanka. His party could get only 2.15% of the votes in Sri Lanka in the 2020 general election.
