Ukraine strikes the blow! Long live the Ukrainian revolution!

The National Liberation Army of Ukraine (ЗСУ) carried out a series of large-scale drone attacks on air bases of Putin’s army on the territory of the Russian Federation on June 1, 2025. That series of attacks, which the Ukrainians have dubbed “Operation Spider Web,” destroyed around 40 aircraft, a percentage that is equivalent to almost 40% of Putin’s aircraft fleet. Ukraine has dealt an extraordinary blow! A coup that encourages and stimulates the national liberation revolutions that are developing in Kurdistan, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Georgia, Chashemyra, etc., where the militias of armed activists confront the regimes and dictatorships that oppress them.

These attacks are a military feat typical of partisans and guerrillas of the peoples who fight for their liberation facing the invaders who oppress them! Long live the Ukrainian army’s Operation Spider’s Web! Putin out of Ukraine! Marxists are for the triumph of Ukraine against Putin’s capitalist oligarchy. Down with the dictatorship of Putin’s capitalist oligarchy, oppressive and murderous of the peoples of Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and Syria. Through the so-called “Operation Spider Web”, the ЗСУ aimed to attack the invader’s air bases located more than 1500 kilometers from the border in areas hitherto considered impenetrable with long-range and low-cost drones. Ukrainian forces attacked the Belaya air base in the Irkutsk region; Olenya Air Base in Murmansk Region; the Dyagillevo air base in the Ryazan region; and Ivanovo Air Base in the Ivanovo region. The ЗСУ sources confirmed that Ukrainian drone operators attacked 41 strategic aircraft, including A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft and Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 strategic bombers.

These bombers were used by the invaders to launch cruise missiles against Ukraine’s civilian population, families, children, the elderly, in addition to attacking schools, kindergartens, hospitals and critical infrastructure in the country. While Putin’s capitalist oligarchy bombs children and cities, the Ukrainian army strikes on exclusively military targets. But not only the planes destroyed by Ukraine were used to assassinate Ukrainian citizens, Putin’s capitalist dictatorship used those planes to hit the peoples of Chechnya, or the Syrian peoples in Aleppo when they were fighting against the Assad dictatorship. Therefore, “Operation Spider Web” is not only an operation for the national liberation of Ukraine, but it is also an operation that contributes to the national liberation struggle of many peoples because it is a blow to the apparatus of repression of the state of the Russian Federation that acts as a gendarme in defense of capitalism in different regions.

Ukraine’s Revolution Hits Trump’s Plans

Trump launched a plan to support the dictatorships and reactionary regimes of the world by making agreements with Maduro, with Putin, with Xi Jinping, or the sinister government of the state of Israel. At the same time, Trump’s objective is to stop the revolutions, struggles and uprisings that are sweeping the world by various dictatorships seeking to reach peace agreements with the aim of preventing them from being cornered by the revolution and the uprising of the peoples. For this reason, “Operation Spider Web” means a hard blow to Donald Trump’s policy that seeks to reach a peace agreement with Putin that means a surrender of Ukraine and the acceptance of the loss of its territory, impunity for the war criminals who murdered thousands of Ukrainians, and the kidnapping of thousands of Ukrainian children.

The operation inflicted some $7 billion worth of damage on Russia. The entire operation was long and patiently planned by the government of Ukraine and the leadership of the ЗСУ that established a plan for the placement of FPV drones that were transferred to the Russian Federation inside trucks, then stored in transports that drove those cargo units with retractable roofs. The plan included parking the trucks near Russian air bases and opening the roofs of the trucks for the launch of the FPVs. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the operation used 117 drones and destroyed 40 percent of Russia’s strategic cruise missile carriers.

Zelensky said Ukrainian authorities withdrew from Russia people who “helped” Ukraine with the operation before the operation was launched. That is to say, many Ukrainian, Russian, Kazakh and various nationalities collaborated with the operation, doing the tasks of truck drivers, guards, arming and disarming the elements that were part of the operation, without which the entire operation would have been impossible. In fact, one of the barracks attacked is located on the border with Kazakhstan, which highlights the existence of a network of collaborators from the local population that made the attack possible. Another attack was carried out in Siberia, 5,000 km from the front line, which highlights the existence of a deep network of partisans who act in coordination within the Russian Federation based on the hatred that exists towards Putin in the various republics. If it had not had the collaboration of these Ukrainian, Russian, Kazakh partisans, etc., the operation of “Operation Spiderweb” could not have been carried out.

For this reason, “Operation Spider’s Web” is another slap in the face of the 99% of the world left that supports the “Decoupling Theory” that aims to show the war in Ukraine as a struggle between “imperialisms” of Russia and China against NATO. This operation of the Ukrainian army, carried out with Russian and Ukrainian civilian collaborators who took on the courageous task of infiltrating enemy territory to carry out surveillance, intelligence, mechanics, and conspiracy with the support of families, friends, in a network of resistance that penetrated deep into the vast territory of the Russian Federation thousands of kilometers away for months, it can only be carried out when a people is carrying out a revolution.

“Operation Spiderweb” shows that the war in Ukraine is a revolutionary war, for national liberation. It is not a war between “imperialisms” as the bourgeois opinionologists, imperialist public opinion and the reformist, campist and Stalinist left try to present it. Regardless of the fact that it is headed by a bourgeois leadership, embodied in the capitalist government of Zelensky with a pro-imperialist stance, and with an army that also has a bourgeois and pro-imperialist leadership, Ukraine has been fighting for its independence from the Russian Federation since 2014 with the Revolution of Dignity, and then, against Putin’s invasion since 2022. Marxists do not define revolutions by the ideologies of their leadership, but by the tasks carried out by the working class and the people. The Ukrainian army is an army of National Liberation, which carries out a revolution with overwhelming majority support from the people whose will for independence is unbreakable. Without the existence of that revolution and that unbreakable will, an action like “Operation Spiderweb” that has shaken the world would have been impossible.

The policy of Trump and NATO to provide weapons in a limited way, under pressure from the European peoples who massively support Ukraine, is suffering a severe blow. Now Trump and European imperialism are seeking to force a peace agreement to allow Putin to continue carrying out genocide against the Ukrainian people with impunity. But “Operation Spider Web” shows that it is impossible to divert the Ukrainian revolution because the people are determined to resist and continue the struggle.

Drones are the Molotov cocktail of the 21st century

The entire attack operation was a great maneuver orchestrated and organized down to the smallest detail. To divert the attention of Putin’s security services and authorities, the ЗСУ organized the blowing up of 4 railway bridges, two in the Bryansk region, one in the Kursk region, and one in Melitopol, after which, due to the panic caused by the attacks on the bridges, the attention of the authorities was diverted, which facilitated the attacks with swarms of drones. A large part of the capitalist press, opinionologists, are “surprised” by Ukraine’s resistance actions, and by the development of drones, a cheap and simple artifact, whose military use has been very important by the partisans and the National Liberation Army of Ukraine.

We can define that during the twentieth century the “Molotov cocktail” was the tool of the partisans, guerrillas and activists who faced counterrevolutionary regimes, fascism, invasions and aggressions, a homemade incendiary bomb whose purpose was the expansion of the flammable liquids it contains. This type of incendiary bombs originated in the Spanish Civil War, more specifically in the Battle of Seseña in 1936, showing the popular ingenuity to manufacture weapons with low resources to face more powerful armies. But if the Molotov cocktail was the tool of the partisans, and guerrillas in the twentieth century, drones are the weapon of the partisans and guerrillas of the twenty-first century.

Putin’s Defense Ministry has acknowledged the attacks that Ukrainian forces carried out with FPV drones on air bases. And although the Ministry of Defense claimed that Russian forces repelled all the attacks, the truth is that the drone attack based on the development of cutting-edge computer technologies completely unsettled Putin’s high command. The security services and the ЗСУ they were able to launch FPV drones near Russian air bases, they were able to evade Putin’s electronic warfare systems, they were able to attack directly on Russian territory at close range from the bases, which allowed drone operators to operate effectively, taking advantage of the surprise effect. It is such a hard blow that it may, at least temporarily, limit Russia’s ability to carry out drone and long-range missile attacks on Ukraine. Russia is likely to struggle to replace the aircraft that Ukrainian forces damaged and destroyed, also for economic reasons as publications such as Forbes reported in September 2023 that a single A-50 aircraft costs approximately $500 million.

In that sense, the Ukrainian revolution, the Syrian revolution, and the Palestinian revolution are deeply related. Like Putin’s army, during Israel’s invasion of Gaza the Israeli army suffered the destruction of hundreds of vehicles, tanks, bulldozers, as well as much of its logistics and military equipment, in the urban guerrilla war that Palestinian militias in Gaza implemented against an infinitely superior army, which forced the withdrawal of the Israeli army. The direct antecedent that we find of this strategy of urban guerrilla warfare in the 21st century is the Iraq War of National Liberation where NATO was defeated, along with other Wars of National Liberation such as that of the Kurds in Rojava who defeated ISIS troops in the battle of Kobane. or in Syria where the militiamen defeated the dictatorship of Bashar Al-Assad. But today the Palestinian partisans and militiamen massively possess two types of weapons that the guerrillas or militiamen of Iraq did not have massively available 20 years ago.

On the one hand, Palestinian or Ukrainian militiamen or guerrillas massively use missile launchers, or rocket launchers that rest on the shoulder and cause enormous destruction to the occupying troops. Although these weapons already existed 20 years ago, in the Iraq War they were not used massively by the militiamen because only mercenaries provided by NATO such weapons, such as the mujhaideen of Afghanistan, or other mercenaries of the imperialist armies, will be able to access this type of weapon. Iraqi militiamen could only access this type of weaponry stolen from NATO headquarters, or buying them on the black market, which at that time was being limited by the trade blockade imposed by imperialism on Iraq. But now it is different, and this weaponry has massively reached the Palestinian guerrillas, or Houthis, just as we see it acting with this weaponry to the Ukrainian partisans in the fight against Putin’s occupying troops.

Other weapons that are being used massively by Palestinian, Houthi, Syrian and Ukrainian militiamen are drones. Both aerial drones and submarines have had a great development in the Ukrainian National Liberation War, it is a new type of weapons that appeared in the civil war in Yemen by attacking Saudi Arabian oil facilities, such as in the second half of 2022 when they appeared spectacularly in Ukraine by hitting the Kremlin and Moscow buildings. The characteristic of this type of weaponry is that they are easy to build because they are made of simple materials, and they allow flying without being detected by radars or anti-missile surveillance systems, which allows them to evade the surveillance of the sophisticated defense systems of the occupying armies.

Both techniques represent a technological change in the urban guerrilla wars that characterize the 21st century, and are diametrically opposed to the guerrilla wars of the 20th century that took place mainly in the countryside. The technical evolution of Gaza’s urban guerrilla warfare is being copied from the Ukrainian revolution where partisans massively employ both types of weapons, allowing militiamen to face or defeat an army superior in quantity and quality of resources.

Let’s support the hard struggle of the Ukrainian revolution

The blow of “Operation Spiderweb” does not in any way mean that Ukraine has triumphed. On the contrary, the struggle of the Ukrainian people is very hard and difficult, enduring the permanent invasion and bombardment of an infinitely superior enemy from a military point of view. Ukrainian authorities recently reported that Putin has deployed 125,000 troops to the borders of Sumy and Kharkiv provinces, two provinces where invading forces are conducting offensive operations seeking to take advantage of the farce of “peace negotiations” and prolong the war for additional gains on the battlefield.

We must support the revolution in Ukraine with all our might. The triumph of Ukraine is vital for the triumph of the world revolution, and the struggle for the national liberation of the peoples of the world. Moreover, the Ukrainian revolution is part of the European socialist revolution. We reject the farce of the peace meetings promoted by Donald Trump, we reject Zelensky’s pro-imperialist and treacherous policy that seeks to make the Ukrainian people trust NATO criminals. The Ukrainian partisans, and guerrillas, and the armed people are the only guarantee of victory, far from the officials, liars and swindlers of Europe’s bourgeois political parties that fill their mouths talking about “supporting” Ukraine but continue to finance Putin’s government by buying its oil, gas and minerals. It is the Ukrainian activists and guerrillas who are changing the world, defeating all attempts by Putin and world imperialism to defeat the Ukrainian revolution, and it is they who will end up imposing their own rule in the struggle against capitalism and for global socialism.
