KATHMANDU: If everything goes according to the plan, Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” and other leaders are expected to announce the formation of Samajwadi Morcha (Socialist Front), a loose forum of Left parties, on Monday.

Sources claimed that since the process of establishing the Socialist Front among various left-wing political parties has “almost been finalized”, it is likely that Dahal, who is also the Prime Minister, will announce its formation.

The initiative to unite left-wing parties excluding the CPN-UML, which began approximately a year ago, is set for announcement, the source said.

Last Tuesday, a task force meeting, comprising leaders from four parties, reached a decision to expedite the announcement of the Socialist Front.

The participating parties — the Maoist Centre, Janata Samajwadi Party, Unified Socialist, and the Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand Biplav — have come together to establish the Front.

However, sources indicate that the Nepal Samajwadi Party, led by former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, will not be included in the Front.

The leaders of the four parties have tentatively agreed to maintain the Front as a “loose forum” rather than a tightly structured coalition.

Furthermore, a leader stated that some other left parties are expected to be included in the Socialist Front in the future.

However, it is worth noting that there have been no recent discussions between Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Dr. Bhattarai regarding this matter.

It is important to highlight that Dr. Bhattarai had previously proposed the idea of forming a Socialist Front as a means to tackle the present challenges.

Metmani Chaudhary, a leader of Unified Socialist Party, said that preparations to announce the Samajwadi Front are almost completed.

“This is to form a coalition among four political parties — Maoist Center, Unified Socialist Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, and Biplav’s Communist Party of Nepal,” he said.

“The primary objective of this front is to foster a significant sense of left unity, which we aspire to achieve,” Chaudhary said.

Vice Chair of the ruling Maoist Center, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, expressed that while the preparations for the Front’s announcement have been finalized, it might still require a few additional days before the official declaration can be made.
