INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE IN NETHERLANDS! South Africa has today (Wednesday, 6 March 2024) approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) with an urgent application for the provisional measures the court ordered on 26 January 2024 to be strengthened to prevent a catastrophic famine in the Gaza Strip. The urgent application has been necessitated by widespread starvation in Gaza, which has claimed the lives of at least 15 children in the past week alone, with the actual numbers believed to be much higher. United Nations experts warn that the number of deaths will increase exponentially unless military activities are halted and the blockade is lifted. 〈노동자 연대〉 496호 입력 2024-03-12 20:08 김어진 영화 〈로기완〉(3월 1일 넷플릭스 공개)은 벨기에의 탈북 난민 신청자 로기완의 실화다. 조해진 작가의 소설 《로기완을 만났다》를 영화화했다. 로기완은 어머니와 함께 북한을 탈출해 중국 연길에서 힙겹게 살아간다. 어머니는 공안 단속을 피하다 교통사고로 죽는다. 어머니는 기완 삼촌에게 자신의 시신을 팔라고 하고 그 돈으로 기완을 타국으로 떠나게 한다. “자기 이름을 얻고 살아남아라”라는 유언을 남긴 채. 브뤼셀에 온 기완은 탈북민 신분으로 난민 신청을 한다. 첫 번째 인터뷰에서 벨기에 조사관은 로기완에게 돈 벌려고 온 조선족 아니냐는 차가운 질문을 던진다. 그러나 중국에서 탈북민임을 숨겨야 했던 로기완은 모든 증거를 없애 버렸었다. 어머니와 북한에서 찍은 사진이 유일한 증거. 그는 두 번째 인터뷰 날짜를 받는다. 그러나 추운 겨울을 보내야 하는 다음해 2월로. 난민 신청자 기완의 하루는 그야말로 인간 생존의 한계를 시험하는 나날들이었다. 어머니 유산의 상당 부분이 브로커에게 갔고 남은 650유로(약 100만 원)로 몇 달을 버텨야 하는 상황. 휴지통에서 먹다 버린 빵을 찾아 먹고 빈 병을 팔아 손에 쥔 동전 몇 푼으로 하루하루를 버틴다. 화장실 바닥에서 잠을 자지만, 유료 화장실이라 그조차 여의치 않고 어느 날에는 입구까지 봉쇄된다. 공원에서 불을 쬐다가 한 무리의 청소년들에게 두들겨 맞기도 한다. 원작 소설의 표현을 빌자면 “중립 평화의 도시” 브뤼셀도 자본주의의 차가운 도시이기는 마찬가지였다. ...
