Sri Lankan human rights activist Sandya Priyangani Ekneligoda is among the 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2022 compiled by the BBC.
Eknaligoda has been campaigning for the families of the thousands of people that are missing in Sri Lanka. In 2017, she also won the International Women of Courage Award for her work in the field.
She actively became involved in the campaign, after her husband, a prominent investigative journalist, Prageeth Eknaligoda, went missing in January 2010.
In her own words, she is “a woman who fights on behalf of others at every opportunity, engages in creative struggle, and overcomes challenges amidst insults and slander, through dedication and sacrifice.”
