We often see powerful countries and their companies imposing their dominance on other countries by misusing words like globalization, new markets, etc. The capitalist system uses these false words to refer to the process known as imperialism. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries Capitalism, which was initially based on high competition has shifted towards more centralized and concentrated forms of monopolies and cartels. These monopolies operate all over the world as transnational and multinational companies. Governments in such monopolistic countries are constantly working to secure the profits of those monopolies. The financial system and financial institutions of the world today are driven by that. The main reason behind many wars, trade wars, and conflicts in the present world is the greed of these imperialist powers to plunder. From the Taliban issue in Afghanistan, the conflict in Ukraine to the geopolitical problems facing Sri Lanka has its roots in imperialism.
Imperialism, the inevitable development of capitalism, has repeatedly shown that the capitalist system has no more progressive role to play on a global scale. The only thing the capitalist system can do today is to create conflicts, trade wars, and wars around the world in order to maximize the profits of the big capitalists. The world’s bourgeoisie is united in defending the imperialist corporations that have besieged the world. Marxists stand for the downfall of that system and for that it is our task to unite the proletariat globally. That is the best response we can give to Marx’s proudest appeal “Proletarians of all countries, unite!”.
