Official Recognition:

In 1977, the United Nations officially recognized March 8th as International Women’s Day, and it has since become a global day of celebration and activism, focusing on various issues including gender equality, reproductive rights, violence against women, and economic empowerment.

কলকাতার ঐতিহাসিক স্টার থিয়েটারের নটী বিনোদিনী আর্ট গ্যালারিতে চলছে বাংলাদেশের কুটির শিল্প মেলা। বাংলাদেশের টাঙ্গাইল, জামদানি, শাড়ি ছাড়াও নকশি কাঁথা থেকে শুরু করে মশারি, লুঙ্গি, গামছা বিক্রি হচ্ছে পাল্লা দিয়ে। চাহিদা রয়েছে বাংলাদেশের বুটিক শিল্পের ও। গত ১৯ ডিসেম্বর থেকে শুরু হয়েছে এই বুটিক ও কুটির শিল্পের মেলা চলবে, আগামী ২৬ শে ডিসেম্বর পর্যন্ত। উদ্যোক্তারা জান ান 24 শে ডিসেম্বর পর্যন্ত নির্ধারিত সময় থাকলেও ক্রেতাদের দাবি মেনে এবং বিক্রেতাদের বাজার ধরতে এই মেলা আরো একদিন অতিরিক্ত চলবে বলে জানান মেলার উদ্যোক্তা সংস্থা ময়দানব এর চীফ এক্সিকিউটিভ অফিসার হিমাংশু মিত্র। তিনি জানান প্রায় ১৭ টি সংস্থা এবারের মেলায় অংশ নিয়েছে। এর মধ্যে বাংলাদেশের রয়েছে ১০ টি সংস্থা এবং ভারতের অর্থাৎ পশ্চিমবঙ্গের রয়েছে ৭ টি সংস্থা। দুই বাংলার শিল্প সম্ভার দেখতে উপচে পড়ছে মানুষের ভীড়। বাংলাদেশের বিক্রেতাদের দাবী বুটিক শাড়ীর খুব চাহিদা রয়েছে এছাড়াও ঢাকাই জামদানি শাড়ি, বাংলাদেশের শিপন সুতোয় বোনা মশারী, সুতির লুঙ্গি ও গামছা কিনছেন বহু মানুষ। তবে মেলার দিন ও সময় সীমা আরো বৃদ্ধি পেলে আরো ভালো হত বলেও জানান মেলায় অংশ নিতে আসা দুই বাংলার সংস্থাগুলি। ভারতীয় ক্রেতাদের অবশ্যই সোনায় সোহাগা কলকাতায় বসে তারা সহজে পেয়ে যাচ্ছেন মনের মতো রং বেরংয়ের হস্তশিল্পের নতুন নতুন পোষাক আসাক। বাঙ্গালীর নষ্টালজিয়া শুধু যে ভাষা, সাহিত্য, সংস্কৃতি, কিংবা খাদ্য বা পর্যটনে আটকে নেই সেটা প্রমাণ করে বাংলাদেশের গ্রাসরুট ও পশ্চিমবঙ্গের ময়দানব এই দুই সংস্থার আয়োজিত নবম বর্ষ বুটিক ও হস্ত শিল্প মেলার ভিড় দেখে।
