11월 4일 주한 이스라엘 대사관 근처에서 이스라엘 규탄·팔레스타인 연대 집회와 행진이 열렸다. 이번이 6차 집회였다.

이스라엘이 팔레스타인 가자 지구 자빌리아 난민촌을 사흘 내리 폭격한 직후 열린 집회라서 분노가 컸다.

오늘 집회는 참가자들의 인종과 국적의 다양함이 두드러졌다. 다양한 인종과 국적의 사람들이 서로 다른 종교적·정치적 배경에도 한마음으로 발언을 경청하고 구호를 외치며 서울 도심을 행진했다.

“We’re all Palestinians!(우리 모두가 팔레스타인인이다)”

이 집회에는 한국의 37개 단체가 연명하며 지지와 연대를 표했다. 한 주 전 집회보다 9곳이 더 늘었다.

주최 측뿐 아니라 각 단체와 커뮤니티, 개인 참가자들도 다양한 사진과 재치 있는 구호가 담긴 팻말을 준비해 와 집회를 더욱 풍부하게 했다.

친구들과 함께 나온 동남아시아 유학생들이 새롭게 눈에 띄었고, 특히 자녀들과 함께 나온 아랍계 참가자들이 많았다.

“미국은 이런 네타냐후를 한껏 지원하고 있습니다. 이것은 미국의 후원하에 이스라엘이 벌이는 제국주의 전쟁인 것입니다.

“[그러나] 하마스의 공격은 팔레스타인 문제를 없는 셈 취급하려는 미국의 중동 정책을 어그러뜨렸습니다. … 당황한 미국은 두 국가 해법을 다시 거론하고 있습니다. 그러나 지금의 저항은 바로 두 국가 해법이 실패했기 때문에 벌어지고 있는 것입니다.

“팔레스타인인들의 싸움이 승리해야 평화와 공존이 가까워질 수 있습니다. … 팔레스타인 안의 싸움과 바깥의 싸움이 만나야 합니다. 따라서 우리는 이렇게 외쳐야 합니다.

“We’re all Palestinians! Victory to Palestine!”

팔레스타인계 요르단인 유학생 무함마드 씨는 팔레스타인 전역이 공격받고 있다고 폭로했다.

“비극적이게도 지금의 폭력은 단지 가자 지구에 국한돼 있지 않습니다. 서안에서도 … 이스라엘 군대뿐만 아니라 정착민들의 폭력으로 지난 몇 주 사이에 100명이 넘는 팔레스타인인들이 사망했습니다.

“우리는 오늘 이 자리에 모여서 이스라엘의 폭력에 대한 세계적인 침묵을 깨트리고자 합니다.

“가자 지구에 대한 폭력과 봉쇄를 멈추라고 요구해야 하고, 서안에서도 팔레스타인인들에 대한 살해를 멈추라고 요구해야 합니다. 모두를 위한 평화와 정의를 요구해야 합니다.

“우리의 집단적인 목소리는 압도적인 폭력과 불의에 맞선 희망의 등대가 돼야 하고 변화를 위한 촉매가 돼야 합니다.”

현재 의사인 전진한 건강과대안 운영위원은 반인륜적 만행과 서방의 위선을 규탄했다.

“어제는 이스라엘이 구급차 행렬을 폭격해서 이송되던 환자와 의료인들을 살해했습니다. … 얼마 전까지만 해도 병원을 폭격한 게 아니라고 거짓말을 하더니 이제는 대놓고 학살을 계속하고 있습니다. 팔레스타인 의사들은 마취제도 없이 두개골 수술과 제왕절개를 하면서 … 차라리 죽고 싶다고 얘기하고 있습니다.

“지난 75년 동안 이스라엘은 이런 일을 계속해 왔습니다. … 지금 소위 국제 사회는 양쪽이 휴전해야 한다는 식으로 말합니다. 그런데 이것은 일방적인 학살 아닙니까. 이스라엘이 공격을 멈춰야 합니다. 이스라엘이 점령을 멈춰야 합니다. 저항은 멈춰질 수 없습니다.

“이런 휴전조차도 반대하는 미국이나, 이를 기권한 한국을 규탄합니다. 이 비극을 막을 방법은 전 세계 민중의 저항과 연대뿐입니다. 팔레스타인 해방과 승리를 위해서 계속 함께합시다.”

윤지영 나눔문화 연구원은 이스라엘의 인종청소 의도와 ‘국제 사회’의 위선을 폭로했다.

“이스라엘은 자신들의 진짜 전쟁 목적을 드러내고 있습니다. 이스라엘 첩보부가 작성한 보고서에는 가자 지구 주민들을 남쪽으로 밀어낸 후 시나이 반도로 쫓아내고 가자 지구를 완전히 차지할 계획을 적시하고 있습니다. 이스라엘의 한 싱크탱크는 가자 지구를 청소할 기회가 왔다는 논문을 발표했습니다. 무자비한 학살을 땅을 차지할 수 있는 기회로 표현하고 있는 것입니다.

“국제 사회는 무책임하게 방관만 하고 있습니다. 우리는 유엔과 미국이 한 나라를 얼마나 철저하게 경제 봉쇄할 수 있는지 무수한 사례를 통해 본 적 있습니다. 그런데 왜 휴전을 거부한 이스라엘은 제재하지 않습니까?

“이스라엘은 가자 지구를 공습하며 긴 전쟁이 될 것이라고 협박한 바 있습니다. 하지만 우리의 저항 또한 길고 끈질길 것입니다.”

이집트인 타메르 씨는 일제 식민 지배에 맞선 한국인들의 독립 투쟁에 빗대어 팔레스타인 저항의 정당성을 옹호했다.

“일본의 식민 지배에 맞서 싸운 조선인들의 독립 투쟁을 테러리스트들의 활동이라고 할 수 있습니까? 조국을 지키기 위해 싸운 홍범도 장군을 테러리스트라고 할 수 있습니까? 팔레스타인의 저항은 고귀한 목표를 갖고 점령과 식민 지배에 맞서 싸우고 있는 것입니다.”

타메르 씨는 이스라엘 점령군의 감옥에 갇혀 있는 팔레스타인 저항 활동가의 사진을 들고 나와 이스라엘의 만행을 규탄했다.

“제가 사진을 들고 있는 이 분은 역사상 가장 긴 형량을 선고받은 압둘라 알 바르구티입니다. 무려 5200년 형을 선고받았습니다. 그는 한국에서도 5년간 살며 한국인과 결혼했고, 그 누구도 해하거나 다치게 한 적 없습니다. 그러다 [팔레스타인으로] 돌아가 저항에 나섰던 분입니다. 이런 분들이 어떤 잘못을, 범죄를 저질렀다는 말입니까?”

주최 측은 가자 지구 현지와의 통신 연결을 준비했으나 현지의 통신 두절 상황 때문에 안타깝게도 불발됐다.

팔레스타인에 연대를!

집회의 마지막은 오늘 집회를 함께 준비한 연대 단체들을 대표해 노동자, 대학생, 의사 등 다양한 참가자들이 연대를 더 키우고 지속할 것을 다짐하는 결의문을 낭독하는 시간이었다.

“자신의 삶과 터전, 인간답게 살 권리를 지키기 위해 싸워 온 팔레스타인인들의 저항은 완전히 정당하다. … 팔레스타인인들의 저항은 고립되지 않았다. 이스라엘은 이미 저항에 부딪히고 있고, 앞으로 더 많은 저항에 부딪힐 것이다.

“진실을 두려워하는 이스라엘 정부가 가짜뉴스를 동원하고 이스라엘을 지원하는 서방의 여러 정부들이 갖은 방해를 퍼부었지만, 전 세계 곳곳에서는 팔레스타인인들의 저항에 연대하는 정의로운 움직임이 계속돼 왔다.

“이스라엘은 지금 당장 학살을 멈춰라! 이스라엘의 불의한 무력이 팔레스타인인들의 정당한 저항을 결코 무릎 꿇릴 수 없을 것이다. 팔레스타인에 연대를!”

행진 출발 직전에는 이집트인 참가자들이 이스라엘 후원 기업들을 규탄하는 퍼포먼스를 벌였다.

이스라엘의 반인륜적 만행을 폭로하고 규탄하는 다양한 팻말 수백 개와 수십 개의 팔레스타인 국기를 흔들고 구호를 쉼 없이 외치며 서울 도심을 행진하는 장면은 아주 장관이었다.

아이를 안거나 유모차를 끌며 행진한 아랍계 참가자들이 많았는데, 열 살 남짓한 어린이들이 무리 지어 팔레스타인 깃발과 사진 팻말을 들고 행진 선두에 서 주목받았다. 한 소녀가 행진 선두에서 아빠의 목마를 타고 마이크로 “Stop killing children”을 외치고, 뒤따르는 어른들이 따라 외치는 장면은 행진 대열을 더 결연하게 했다. 서울시청 광장에서 수많은 시민들이 이 장면을 관심어린 시선으로 지켜 봤다.

다시 행사 장소로 돌아온 행진 대열은 다음주에도 계속 집회를 이어 가기로 결의하고 집회와 행진을 마무리했다. 주최 측은 미국 국무장관 블링컨의 방한에 대응한 행동도 계획하고 있다고 알렸다.

힘을 주는 집회 발언들과 행진은 오늘도 참가자들을 고무했다. 집회 종료 후에도 참가자들은 바로 흩어지지 않고 한동안 서로 인사를 나눴다. 그새 친구가 돼 안부를 묻고 약속을 잡기도 했다.

한 팔레스타인계 미국인은 “오늘 집회에서 엄청나게 힘을 얻었다. 드디어 내 기분을 목소리 내어 표현할 수 있었다”고 참가 소감을 전했다. 튀니지 출신 유학생은 “이전보다 한국인들의 관심과 참가가 많아진 것 같아서 인상적이었다”고 전했다.

연세대 유학생인 팔레스타인인은 이렇게 소감을 전했다. “한국 정부는 이스라엘에 우호적인 정부로 인식돼 왔기 때문에, 한국에 있다는 것에 다소 외로움을 느꼈습니다. 그러나 오늘 집회는 한국인들이 정의를 지지한다는 것을 보여 줬습니다. 집회에 참가한 한국인들은 인류의 편에 서고 있습니다. 이런 외로운 시기에, 나는 이곳에 연대와 동지가 있다는 걸 비로소 느꼈습니다.”

억압이 있는 곳에 저항이 있고, 저항이 있는 곳에 연대가 있을 수밖에 없다. 저항은 계속되고 연대도 계속된다. 오늘 가장 뜨거웠던 구호처럼 이 더러운 제국주의 전쟁에 맞서 우리 모두가 팔레스타인인이다.
